Improved IE 7, Yes and ... NO !!!

Well, we've heard this week that Bill has announced that M$ will be releasing version 7 beta of IE (Internet Explorer) this summer to solve most of its security problems.

Now, that answers the Improved IE 7 (Yes part). But that's only the tip of IE's problems. It's a must to fix the security problems, but what about the other problems ? IE doesn't not follow all the standards correctly. Also, it doesn't support the latest standards.

It's been 4 years since the last development was done in IE. So, it doens't support CSS Level 2 and the new Draft CSS Level 3. It doesn't support XForms (there already is a beta extension for Firefox, that was released last week). And more.

M$ should really trash IE and restart from a clean sheet, just follow the standards and not try to add stuff before that stuff has been standardized and MAYBE, just maybe the internet community would use it !!!

I've been using NetScape, Mozilla and Firefox (since version 0.8) for many years, and since IE is so insecure I go out of my way not to use IE. At home, I have a Mac, so I never user IE (I trashed it the first day I got my Mac). At the office, I think I used IE a bit before I got Firefox since Netscape could not work with some of our applications. But since Firefox, I've never used it anymore ....

Life without IE on the web is great.

Long time

Well, it's been a while since I wrote here.

Saturday, I got my brand new custom made inline speed skating boots, made here in Paris by a friend. They are great, what can I say more. Compared with my previous pair which were made in another country, the big advantage is that the shop is in the same city I live in. I went and put my feet directly in the carbon base just before he finished installing the leather, that's another advantage you make sure everything is ok at each step of the process.

Anyway, today I went to training and wore them for about an hour and 40 minutes. All things considerer, and taking into account the fact that your feet need to adapt a bit and that the padding and the leather need to stretch, I'm confident that everything will go well.

You can read an interview of Philippe, the maker, of these boots.

I also tested a new brand of inline frames, these are cut directly in the block of aluminum alloy. They are really stiff, and they do have a good response. The 4x100mm are really short, great for short tracks. I'll test the 4x105mm soon (I'll get them tomorrow !), of course they are a bit longer. Actually they are the same length as other brands of 4x100mm. You can see them here, the first picture is actually of the frames I tested tonight.

That's it for tonight.
